Took this guide to Germany with me but didn't use it very much. The introductory material was useful about some of the key points in German culture, but beyond that, it was hard to use. The print is microscopic - you need young eyes to read it. This guidebook pretty much rode in the suitcase for the duration of my trip. I checked out nearly every German guide book written and this one was the most comprehensive. It has information about the entire country - not just Bavaria & Berlin. The introductory chapters are very well written - especially info regarding food and drinks. This was the only book that actually discussed all regional dishes. Due to a family connection, I wanted to visit North Rhine-Westphalia and this was the only book I could find that included detailed information for the region (Rick Steves completely ignores it). As someone else noted, this book is definitely too large to take along on a trip, but is very useful for pre-trip planning and background reading. The maps very helpful as well.
